Just under 40% of all coffee in the world is produced in Brazil – around 3.7 million metric tons annually. With so much coffee produced, it’s no wonder that the country produces a wide range of qualities. Brazil produces everything from natural Robusta, to the neutral and mild Santos screen 17/18, to the distinctive Rio Minas 17/18. In recent years, Brazilian producers have also begun investing more heavily in specialty coffee production. Through our in-country partners in Brazil, including our sister company, we are able to provide a wide range of Brazilian coffees to our clients: from macrolot to microlot.
Today, the most prolific coffee growing regions of Brazil are Espirito Santo, São Paulo, Minas Gerais, and Bahia. Most Brazilian coffee is grown on large farms that are built and equipped for maximizing production output through mechanical harvesting and processing. The relatively flat landscape across many of Brazil’s coffee regions combined with high minimum wages has led most farms to opt for this type of mechanical harvesting over selective hand-picking.
In the past, mechanization meant that strip-picking was the norm; however, today’s mechanical harvesters are increasingly sensitive, meaning that farms can harvest only fully ripe cherries at each pass, which is good news for specialty-oriented producers.
In many cases and on less level sections of farms, a mixed form of ‘manual mechanized’ harvesting may be used, where ripe coffee is picked using a derriçadeira – a sort of mechanized rake that uses vibration to harvest ripe cherry. A tarp is spanned between coffee trees to capture the cherry as it falls.
With the aid of these newer, more selective technologies, there’s a growing number of farms who are increasingly concerned with – and able to deliver – cup quality.
The farmer Mr. Laerce Franca Faleiros has been working with coffee for more than 55 years. He is married to Mrs Maria Lucia, Vilhena, daughter of Mr Vilhena. The both families, Vilhena and Faleiros are entrepreneurs and have a very long tradition of producing great coffees.
Today the farm is managed by Mr Laerce’s son Elvis, he is the second generation and his whole life has been in the world of coffee. He wants to leave a legacy for his children through sustainable production, looking for quality coffees and sending better coffee direct from farm for the most demanding customers. People who think special will make special coffee.
He started with the fermentation process 6 years ago in 2014 at the beginning of this wave in Brazil. High quality was of the utmost importance and they tried it with lots of options including lemon, wine tangerine and other incredible fruits.
The natural processed coffees in all 7 farms of the Eldorado group have intensely sweet flavours. Honey process is also used which helps with the intensity of the sweetness and amazing caramel notes.
Eldorado is one of the pearls of Alta Mogiana and has already accomplished a number of awards. In 2017 their coffee was 16th in the Cup of Excellence Naturals Category, with 89 points on the SCA cupping method. In the last competition organised by AMSC (Alta Mogiana Specialty Coffee) in the city of Franca, Mr Laerce and Mrs Lucia won 1st Place of Quality on the Microlots category. The lot that won was a very unique coffee with notes of strawberry jelly.
New drying processeslike raised African beds and controlled fermentation were implemented on the last crop of 2018-19. Beside the microlots, Eldorado has a large production of specialty coffees with grades of between 83 and 85 points, becoming a key supplier for large and medium and large importers around the world.
A city with perfect climate, altitude & temperatures for growing coffee, Ibiraci has already produced several coffee champions in teh Alta Mogiana quality championships. In 2019 they gained 1st place in the Cup of Excellence Brazil edition. It is no accident that the mai economic activity of the city is coffee production.
In 2001, Mr Laerce Franca Faleiros founded the Cooperative de Cafeicultores de Ibaraci – Cocapil, where the coffees are received, prepared and stores in the family’s warehouse. In 2020, Cocapil received more than 300,000 bags (60kg) of coffee. Working only with fine and specialty coffees, the cooperative is able to promote the farms as a Direct Trader with 100% traceability in the warehouses. In their coffee lab, every single lot is tasted in order to match the desired cupping profiles of the end customers.
They are pioneers on the transparency of commercial relationships with the producers, and that their coffee lots reach high grades according to the SCA cupping methodology, paying a better price to their members. Each lot that we receive is proven by their Q-graders.

Minimum Green Weight Requirement
Please be advised that the minimum green weight for roasting any one single origin is 6kg. Any orders placed with less than 6kg of each origin will be placed on hold and may cause delays in being dispatched. We will contact you to discuss how you wish to proceed in this case.
Weight Loss During Roasting
Please be mindful of the weight loss through moisture loss during roasting, which is typically between 12-20% depending on the level of roast. The darker the roast, the higher the moisture loss.
