Robusta Coffee

Robusta coffee is one of the two main types of coffee beans used globally, the other being Arabica. It originates from the Coffea canephora plant and is known for its strong, bitter taste, higher caffeine content, and greater resilience. Robusta beans are typically cultivated at lower altitudes in regions of Africa and Southeast Asia, where they are more resistant to pests and diseases due to their robust nature.

In terms of flavour, Robusta coffee is often described as having earthy, nutty, or even woody notes, with a more pronounced bitterness compared to Arabica beans. Its high caffeine content (almost double that of Arabica) contributes to this bitterness and makes it a popular choice for espresso blends, where it helps create a rich, thick crema.
