Medium Roasts with Everyday Favourites

A classic bacon sandwich works well here. The savoury flavour of the bacon brings out the coffee’s richness. Toasted bagels with cream cheese are another strong pairing, offering that satisfying combination of soft and crunchy, creamy and bold.

If you’re into sweeter things, banana bread is a good shout. Its soft texture and subtle flavour don’t compete with the coffee but sit alongside it nicely. A slice of Victoria sponge also works well, as the jam and cream give a touch of sweetness without being too much.

Dark Roasts with Bold and Rich Foods

Dark roasts are full-bodied and have deep, roasted flavours. They can sometimes come across as smoky or slightly bitter, but they shine when paired with the right food.

Chocolate is an obvious match, especially darker varieties. The chocolate’s richness complements the coffee’s intense flavour and enhances each other in a very satisfying way. A piece of chocolate cake or even a few squares of plain dark chocolate can be enough.

Heavier meals can also be a good fit. Think of things like a full English breakfast or a sausage roll. The hearty ingredients sit well with the depth of a dark roast and can help soften its bitterness.

Cheese can also surprise you. A slice of mature cheddar or brie with crusty bread and a hot mug of dark coffee is quite the treat. The creaminess of the cheese offers a lovely contrast that brings out different flavours in the drink.
