Ugandan Rwenzori – Byaruhanga Farm Robusta Scr 14+

£7.25

This Ugandan green coffee comes from the fertile, volcanic slopes of the Rwenzori Mountains, also known as the “Mountains of the Moon.” Grown at altitudes between 1200–1500 meters, this varietal thrives in the region’s lush microclimate, producing coffees of remarkable body and depth.

Cultivated on Byaruhanga Farm under the stewardship of Dream Coffee, this lot is natural sun-dried, enhancing its bold character and amplifying its inherent nutty sweetness. The drying process infuses the beans with smoky undertones, while maintaining a clean, balanced finish, ideal for adventurous single origin roasts or as a vibrant component in espresso blends.

This is a Grade Scr14+ coffee, which will have a higher quantity of defects, variation in size and uniformity, which translates into less predictable roast behavior although an all round good cup quality. Expect a bold, rich cup with layers of roasted nuts, a subtle smokiness, and a lingering finish. Best suited for medium to medium-dark roast levels, this coffee performs well in filter, French press, and pour over brew methods.

Uganda is the native home to one species of Robusta, and commercial coffee production in the country goes back to the beginning of the 20th century.

The bulk of our Uganda coffee is sourced from the West, near the Rwenzori Mountains. The biggest difference between East (Mount Elgon) and West (Rwenzori) is that Mount Elgon is a more established and competitive market. We are excited to be at the forefront of the drive for enhancing coffee production infrastructure, developing the industry and becoming reliable partners for farmers in the Rwenzori Mountain region.

It is clear to us that the potential in this region might exceed our expectations and even the potential of the popular Mount Elgon region. With an ever-growing demand for high quality Arabicas and a sustained interest from roasters and coffee drinkers in the East African origins, we are very confident that, with diligence and effort, Western Ugandan coffees will be able to take their place alongside the other great East African coffees.
