FAQs about Vietnam Son La G1 Arabica Coffee
Vietnam Son La G1 Arabica is a commercial-grade Vietnamese Arabica lot made up of Typica from various estates, graded Screen 16. It’s a distinctive cup with a medium body, low acidity and warm spice character, designed for roasters who want something robust and different from the usual washed Central American profile.
Son La is a coffee-growing area in northern Vietnam. Coffees from this kind of origin can lean into a deeper, more savoury style, with lower brightness and a more grounded finish rather than sharp citrus acidity.
G1 is a grade label used in the listing, and Scr16 refers to screen size, meaning the beans are sorted to a Screen 16 size. Screen sizing helps improve consistency in roasting because the beans behave more similarly in the drum.
This lot is listed as Typica. In this context, the variety is paired with a profile that’s less about high florals and more about steady body, gentle sweetness and spice notes, especially when roasted with a slightly deeper approach.
Polished processing means the green coffee has been mechanically polished after milling, which removes some of the silverskin residue. It doesn’t change the coffee into a different process style, but it can make the physical green presentation cleaner and more uniform.
Expect a medium-bodied cup with a dry mouthfeel and spice-led notes like clove and nutmeg. It has low brightness, low acidity and a short, robust finish, with a smoky aroma that can come through clearly in espresso and darker filter styles.
The roasting note suggests it performs best around the midpoint between first and second crack. That’s often where you can keep the spice notes clear while giving the cup enough development to feel rounded and satisfying rather than sharp.
This coffee suits espresso well when you want a heavier, lower-acid base with spice and smoky aromatics. It also works in moka pot and cafetière for a richer, more traditional profile, and it can make a sturdy batch brew when you prefer depth over high-fruit brightness.
Yes. It can be purchased as green coffee, or selected as a Roast For You option at different roast levels. Roast For You follows the usual minimum of 6kg green so roasting can be scheduled efficiently and kept consistent.
The moisture content is listed as 9.8%. Moisture is one of the cues roasters use when planning heat application and development, and a lower figure can mean you may want to be mindful of momentum so the coffee doesn’t race through early stages.
Store green coffee in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and strong odours, ideally sealed in the original bag or a food-safe airtight container. Roasted coffee is best kept at room temperature in an airtight bag or tin and used within a sensible time frame to keep the spice notes tasting clean and defined.
